Summary: UT Medical Center Heart Hospital is the first heart hospital in the region solely dedicated to the care of heart patients. Construction began in July 2008. The first phase includes a 126,000 square foot, four-story expansion with the possibility of adding an additional four floors at a later date. The lobby area features a glass rotunda as well as a spectacular reception desk design by Barber McMurray and custom built by Steve Ward & Associates. The facility features a beautiful atrium area with easy access to Endoscopy and MRI registration. Also featured is a larger and renovated Endoscopy Department, library access, private-room cardiovascular intensive care unit, new surgery waiting area, new cardiovascular intensive care family lounge and nursing alcoves outside patient rooms. Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit expands from 18 to 24 private room beds, which will offer patients' families space to visit and take part in the care of their loved ones.
